As a male worship leader, I often choose to lead songs originally performed by females because they are powerful worship songs — and at times the best songs out today.
This is one of the rare fast female-led worship songs out there. Fast worship songs are hard enough to find, but ones led by females are even less prevalent. Here’s a great one by We The Kingdom.
Waking Up by We The Kingdom

Honey in the Rock performed by Brooke Ligertwood
Debuting in 2022, it quickly became one of the most popular songs in churches. It’s easy to see why. Ligertwood is arguably the queen of female-led worship songs today. After listening to Honey in the Rock, it’s easy to see why.
In Jesus Name (God of Possible) by Katy Nichole
Katy Nichole has tapped into something special with this song. The lyrics are reminiscent of normal words someone would speak in prayer over a friend or family member who is facing dire circumstances.
I Speak Jesus by Charity Gayle
Gayle has been getting a lot of attention lately for two songs in particular, I Speak Jesus being one of them. The other is next on this list. If you want to experience a powerful female worship leader, follow Charity Gayle.
Thank You Jesus for the Blood by Charity Gayle
This song builds and builds into a powerful worship song that reviews the gospel message.
Goodness of God led by Jenn Johnson
Perhaps a song and leader that need no introduction. With 65 million views on YouTube, you won’t be surprised that this song is on the list.
Yet Not I But Christ In Me by CityAlight
This is a modern hymn written and performed by a church in Australia. This female worship leader is the perfect voice for this reverent yet surprisingly fresh song.
Open Up The Heavens by Meredith Andrews
Here’s a female-led upbeat worship song.
Oceans performed by Taya Smith
While it’s a bit older now, I couldn’t create a list of female-led worship songs without including the blockbuster and instant classic “Oceans.” Taya Smith of Hillsong United absolutely crushes the original recording. This will be a song our granddaughters will be singing.
Way Maker by Sinach
Here’s another song that’s not new, but deserves to be on this list. Just about every church and worship leader has used Sinach’s powerful song and made it their own.
The Blessing by Kari Jobe
This is a fantastic choice for female/male co-leaders. I often lead this with my 14-year-old daughter, who more than does justice to Jobe’s part. Kari Jobe is one of today’s most prominent female worship leaders, as you can see from this performance.
I’m Listening led by Hollyn and Chris McClarney
Though McClarney starts the song, Hollyn steals the show in my opinion. This is another winning song for female/male co-leaders.
Jesus Paid It All performed by Kim Walker-Smith
No list of female-led worship songs would be complete without something from one of the pioneers for women worship leaders. Walker-Smith still stands as one of today’s greatest female voices in the worship world a decade and a half after first getting noticed as part of Jesus Culture.
